Activity: Introduction to a digital video camera

Aims: Getting to know important functions of the new medium digital video camera.

Where: a room apart, group area, explorer’s lab

How long: approx. 45 minutes

What: Handling the digital video camera

Preparation:

Material: television set, digital video camera, picture book Daniel Napp “Dr. Brumm versteht das nicht”.

Steps:

-          The nursery school teacher regards the picture book with the children. What follows is the question how pictures get into the TV set. With the video camera in view the children utter assumptions.

-          With the help of the nursery school teacher the children are familiarized with the camera.

-          The nursery school teacher explains and shows the functions "on/off, record".

-          The children try these functions out.

-          The children play cameraman: they take turns and record pictures of the picture book at hand, they look at their recordings in the display of the camera.

Finally the nursery school teacher shows the children their pictures at the PC.
