The nursery
school teacher meets the children at the computer in the explorers lab.
The children check if the
computer components are all connected and if all plugs are where they belong.
Once again they describe the way the cables connect the individual parts.
The children switch the
computer on by pressing the start button. The children may explain what
happens and describe the function of the arrow (mouse) on the screen.
The nursery school teacher
puts a sticker on the left mouse button so that it becomes more visible for
the children. She shows them how the WORD-program can be opened. The children
try this on their own. The children try the different buttons and take turns
to type their names. The nursery school teacher shows them how to use
different fonts, the children change the font of their names. The nursery
school teacher shows them how the font size can be changed. The children
change the size of their names.
Can you print the names?
The children find the printer symbol on the screen and click on it. The page
is printed. The nursery school teacher explains how the file can be closed. A
child clicks on the symbol. The nursery school teacher explains how the
computer is shut down. A child shuts the computer down.
The children cut out their
printed names and glue them to their name-tags.
The children paint pictures
for the manual, each showing one function (for example: symbol for opening a
program, printer symbol), so that other children in the same kindergarten can
look them up later.

The following cable
connections are repeated: keyboard/CPU, mouse/CPU, CPU/monitor, CPU/printer,
monitor/CPU/socket.
In order to start the
computer, press the start buttons of CPU and monitor.
You move the cursor on the
screen by moving the mouse. In order to open programs, you have to press the
left mouse button.
In order to open the
WORD-program, you have to double click on the symbol with the left mouse
button.
In order to change the font
type, you mark the piece of text to be changed (go over it while keeping the
mouse button pressed) and click on the icon on the toolbar, now you can click
on the font you want to use.
In order to print a page,
you use the left mouse button to click on the printer symbol in the toolbar.
In order to close a page,
you click on the X symbol in the top right corner of the screen.
You shut the computer down
by clicking on START EXIT POWER OFF.
